Eicher takes an all-encompassing look at Lee’s life on and off the battlefield. Despite a sometimes troubled boyhood, Lee went on to become a stellar cadet at West Point and a devoted family man. During the course of the Civil War, he solidified his reputation as a humane, courageous, and brilliant leader.
Eicher has illustrated this life portrait with some 380 photos (including 28 in full color). These include previously unpublished photographs and all 71 visuals of Lee taken during his lifetime, as well as many photographs of friends, family, military colleagues, relics, and significant places associated with Lee.
